Velocity Controls

Velocity Controls

Velocity controls are settings that determine transaction thresholds for a particular Merchant. This allows a merchant to monitor transaction flow, transactions by IP address, by card number, and amount right down to the hour, per transaction type. To access these settings, log into the Payeezy Gateway portal with your Merchant Admin account, click on the Administration tab, then the Terminals subtab, select the terminal you would like to configure and then click on the “Velocity Controls” tab.

Effective November 10, 2016, the Gateway was improved to allow a merchant to choose if they would like calculations to be based on “Approved Only” transactions (default) or “All Transactions.” For example:

With “Approved Only” transactions with the Maximum $ of Transactions set, this will ensure that the merchant processes approved “purchase” transactions up to the specified dollar amount, compared to “All Transactions” and potentially rejecting without enough approved sales purchases. If “All Transactions” with Maximum # Transactions is set, this will limit the number of transactions per transaction type, regardless if they were previously approved, declined, or errored during the specified duration.

If you chose "Decline" for the velocity control and the limit for that control is met, then Payeezy will not send out for authorization any additional transactions related to that control.

There are 7 Settings you can configure:

Maximum Sale $ - Set this to determine the maximum dollar amount to allow for each transaction; when triggered, the transaction will receive ETG Response “35 – maximum sale exceed”.

Minimum Sale $ - Set this to determine the minimum dollar amount to allow for each transaction; when triggered, the transaction will receive ETG Response “36 – below minimum sale”.

Maximum $ of Transactions - This allows you to set the maximum dollar amount, per transaction type, within a specified time period (up to 24 hours or up to 7 days) and whether to decline (transactions are not sent out for authorization) or not; when triggered, the transaction will receive ETG Response “33 – merchant volume exceeded.” Caution: this will limit the total amount you could process on the terminal during the designated period.

Maximum # of Transactions - This allows you to set the maximum number of transactions, per transaction type, within a specified time period (up to 24 hours or up to 7 days) and whether to decline (transactions are not sent out for authorization) or not; when triggered, the transaction will receive ETG Response “33 – merchant volume exceeded.”  Caution: this will limit the total transactions you could process on the terminal during the designated period.

Maximum $ Amount per Card/Check No. - This allows you to set the maximum dollar amount allowed per card or check number*, per transaction type,  during a specified time period (up to 24 hours or up to 7 days) and whether to decline (transactions are not sent out for authorization) or not; when triggered, the transaction will receive ETG Response “34 – card volume exceeded”.

Maximum # Transactions per Card/Check No. - This allows you to set the maximum number of transactions per card or check number*, per transaction type, during a specified time period (up to 24 hours or up to 7 days) and whether to decline (transactions are not sent out for authorization) or not; when triggered, the transaction will receive ETG Response “34 – card volume exceeded”.

Maximum # Transactions per IP - This allows you to set the maximum number of transactions allowed per individual IP address, per transaction type, during a specified time period (up to 24 hours or up to 7 days) and whether to decline or not.

Once you have configured your settings, click Update to save them. It is recommended that the merchant monitor their transactions and adjust their settings based on their business needs.
